What is the purpose of a guestbook?

Traditionally, a guest book was used as a “witness sign in” for weddings.  If you’re sentimental, than having a book of warm wishes, and congratulations from guests may be a great idea. For some couples, they don’t see the reason behind the guestbook. If you want to do something truly unique and different we have some great ideas for you. Some of these can be repurposed and used in different ways, other than just a book sitting on a shelf.

The Photo Album

This guest book idea is great to look back on after 5 or 50 years down the road. Whether your using a professional photo booth service, or leaving a modern day Polaroid camera out you’ll be sure to look back at it and enjoy. You’ll need tape, pens, a photo album and honestly a trash can just in case. The idea is for your guests to snap a photo, place it in the book for you, and write warm wishes next to their picture. The best part is, this idea can go with any type of style your wedding has. Adding some photo props in makes it fun and enjoyable for your guests. This also can be used a “favor” idea for your guests by having them keep one and give one.

Rustic and Wooden Decor Pieces

For your rustic barn weddings, a wooden pallet may just do the trick. Whether it’s pallets, table tops, or framed pieces it can be incorporated anywhere in your house. This guestbook idea is one of the easiest and greatest repurposed pieces you can have at your wedding.

Sewn with Love Messages

Something hand made from grandma, or a new piece to drape in your living room a quilt is a great idea. If you like to sew and be crafty yourself, maybe pieces of fabric to help create the quilt is what they sign. If there is a special blanket that you like it will be used and cherished with a signature from your loved ones.

A Vintage and Classic Look

Something that puts a twist to your normal guest book. Using bibles, dictionaries, and post cards alike creates a timeless message from your guests. It could be a decorative piece you add to a room in your house, or an item you may use every day.

Make it a Fun Game!

These are possibly one of our favorites to see. For the fun seeking couple, the use of jenga or puzzle pieces to form a complete guest book is clever. The classic lawn game of Corn Hole spins into a fun guest book that will be used at any event.

Some Other Ideas

If your not set on any of the above, here are other unique and creative ideas. You can go beyond the purpose of pen and paper and go digital with videos. A guestbook is more of a keepsake for you both to look back and celebrate each anniversary. Maybe you put a purpose behind your guest book and open it at a certain time, or use it as an advice pool for the years to come.
